Ultima Gstaad: A world of contemporary glamour inside an intimate, alpine chalet

Located in the fairy tale, alpine village of Gstaad, amidst the rolling hills and snow-dusted peaks of the Bernese Oberland, Ultima Gstaad is a luxury haven where Swiss charm meets modern glamour — and unrivalled mountain scenery. Beyond its traditional chalet façade, travellers can expect a world of contemporary sophistication, with 11 stylish suites and 6 private residences, a sleek fine-dining restaurant, a private cinema and state-of-the art, wellness sanctuary, offering the perfect space to relax and recharge.

What’s the story?

The Ultima Collection needs little introduction; the award-winning, ultra-luxurious hotel group are responsible for some of the most exclusive and well-designed hotels and private residences around the world. Ultima Gstaad marks the birthplace of the unique concept by co-founding entrepreneurs Byron Baciocchi and Max-Hervé George, who in 2016 sought to bring an elevated and game-changing level of luxury to the Saanenland region — whilst honouring and designing in harmony with the surrounding landscape. The result? A feeling of a private chalet, but with all the amenities and design features of a grand luxury hotel, and not to mention a notably warm and generous guest service, who go above and beyond catering to your every need.

What’s it like inside?

Boasting a traditional and discreet exterior—very much in line with the gingerbread chalet architecture of surrounding Gstaad—the inside of the property (done up local Architect G.Hauswirth) reveals a whole other story. As one would expect from an Ultima Collection hotel, the entire place has been decked out in some of the finest and most sophisticated interiors: think bronze mantelpieces, plush velvet sofas, Italian leather walls and a showpiece Baccarat crystal chandelier, which hangs beneath the lobby’s mirrored ceiling. And it gets even better inside the hotel’s recently updated 11 suites and 6 private residences, where no expense has been spared with glossy Italian furniture, floor-to-ceiling marble bathrooms, steam fireplaces and expansive balconies with breathtaking views of the Bernese Alps. Every angle here oozes with contemporary glamour, whilst retaining the intimacy and unpretentious spirit of a cozy home.

What about the restaurant?

Of course, outdoor activities are only half the reason for staying at the well-located, Ultima Gstaad. For after an intense day of skiing (or shopping on the designer promenade) there’s nothing better than cozying up at Ultima’s haute cuisine restaurant with talented Chef Andrea Franceschi at the helm. Each season the eatery returns with a surprising new menu, implementing naturally grown and seasonal ingredients to create inventive, artful dishes. Imagine fabulous fusion plates like Black Cod with a crisp Yuzu Kosho crust, or Aeolian Island Prawns with a pink peppercorn emulsion, all beautifully presented in creative ways.

How about the spa?

Wellness is a serious business at any Ultima resort, and in the Gstaad outpost, it takes on a whole new meaning. The 8,600 square foot spa oasis has everything one could ask for, featuring an expansive 15-metre swimming pool adorned in black and white marble, an outdoor and indoor jacuzzi, a Finnish sauna, a hammam, a gym and 4 calming treatment rooms were guests can enjoy a range of treatments crafted by reputable brand, Swiss Perfection. In addition, this season the spa’s world-renowned Aesthetic Clinic have returned with new holistic and anti-aging treatments; such as cold ‘cryotherapy’ therapy, laser removal and DNA tests lead by leading medical professionals.
