Meet the woman behind Style Strategy, the company dedicated to styling and helping you become your best self

Whether its dressing business executives from a range of industries, or helping people to create a capsule wardrobe for everyday life, Nadia De Col knows, first-hand, the importance of style and how dressing well can change your life.

Financier turned stylist, Nadia transformed her passion for styling into an everyday reality, when she launched Style Strategy in 2018. A brave move, leaving behind her career in finance, Nadia trained professionally in Paris and Milan, dedicating herself to building a business that would help people dress better, and feel better too.

Nadia’s discerning eye and professional approach are just two reasons why she’s on speed-dial for many professionals in Geneva. Looking at the bigger picture – not just the clothes, but the individual behind them, Nadia analyses skin tone, body shape, hair and eye colour, and a person’s outlook on life, helping them define their style identity and make the right choices.

Incredibly curious as to how she started her business, we spoke with Nadia about style, her company and how discovering your style DNA can lead to a more satisfying life.

How did you get into styling ?

As a child I was always interested in fashion and clothes. I would venture out to the shops without my parents permission, drawn to all the beautiful dresses on display and eager to take one home. But I didn’t think I could turn my passion into a reality, and instead, I decided to work in finance. It was during this time, that I noticed the impact that clothes had on the way people perceived me. I often struggled to find the perfect balance, between looking professional and maintaining a sense of femininity.

Even outside of my job, in my personal life, my wardrobe was disorganised and I found it difficult to put outfits together, even though I had plenty of clothes and accessories. At that point in my life, I wanted to solve my own problem, and realised that if I trained professionally I could help other people too. From there, I went on to take style coaching courses in Paris and Milan, learning different approaches from different cultures, and building a strong skillset that I use today.

How would you describe your style?

My personal style is classic, elegant and bohemian with a chic touch. Like the styles from the seventies, one of my favourite periods, I love the light and flowy dresses with natural fabrics. I am also quite versatile due to my profession, and like to experiment with colours and patterns. When I wear light flattering colours, like baby blue or violet, I notice the positive effect it has on my mood and the mood of others—colours are more powerful than you might think!

Do you have a signature look?

I love a long bohemian dress, belted at the waist and paired with either ankle or knee high boots. The most important thing for me is to be both stylish and comfortable. I really love high-quality materials—like cashmere, silk, leather and suede—and the way that they feel on the body.

What does Style Strategy offer?

Style Strategy helps you to find your style identity, developing a style that reflects the personality within, and in turn, that makes you look and feel your best. I do this through private sessions, available to both women and men, where they can choose between a range of packages that offer different styling services. From colour analysis and style development, to personal shopping and wardrobe decluttering and building, I help my clients develop their signature style and give them the tools to create it. I also offer group workshops, e-styling and private coaching for companies, where we’ll discuss important topics like how you can increase your overall performance and maximise your chances of success, by having a well-groomed image.

What is your process for styling?

It starts with a free consultation, where I’ll ask my client to fill in a questionnaire, so I can learn more about them and better understand their personality. After this, we’ll have a first private session, where we’ll analyse everything from the right colours for their skin tone, to which cuts best enhance their body shape. Depending on the client’s needs, I can even analyse their closet, giving them the tools to build an efficient capsule wardrobe for both office and home. It’s really about defining their style DNA, which helps the individual to dress better and feel more confident.

What do you love most about style coaching?

I love connecting with my clients, and watching them transform into the best version of themselves. I accompany them on a very personal journey, and love knowing that every day I am going to help someone become more confident. Whether it’s giving them the tools to shop more efficiently—so they can save money and time—or helping them enhance their image with the right clothes, I love showing people how style can improve their life.

Any memorable experiences with clients?

One of the most rewarding experiences I had was with a doctor, who didn’t have the time to focus on style and relied on wearing an easy student look. After working together, she became confident in building outfits that were both stylish and comfortable, and which made her feel extremely feminine. She really transformed her image and loved the way she felt.

What fashion trends are you loving at the moment?

I absolutely love sustainable fashion, and it’s something I try to promote when shopping with my clients. Sure, the idea of sustainable fashion can seem daunting, but there are so many great and effective ways to build an ethical wardrobe. Try to buy less and invest in clothes you know you are going to wear more than once, or rent a dress and shop at a vintage store selling used items that’ll add an edge to your look. I always say: shop smarter and you’ll have clothes that last longer!
