September in Switzerland marks the unofficial start of the autumn social season. Summer may be winding down, but the calendar certainly isn’t, as gallery openings, design showcases, sporting fixtures and red carpets bring the cities back to life.
From gallery hopping in Geneva and high-speed racing on the lake to Zurich’s Green Carpet, the season moves between art, design, cinema, sport and horology. These are the eight dates worth clearing the diary for.
Geneva Art Week, Geneva (16–20 September 2026)
Geneva’s art scene becomes a city-wide itinerary of exhibitions, studio visits and conversations. Highlights include Art en Vieille-Ville, the gallery circuit of Nuit des Bains, Art Talks, Art Tables and Carouge’s ceramics trail—five days designed for discovering artists as well as the people championing them.

Zurich Design Weeks, Zurich (17–27 September 2026)
Under the theme “OUT OF…”, more than 40 exhibitions, installations and events examine what happens beyond design’s familiar boundaries. Head to Halle 550 for the international interiors fair neue räume 26, then follow Poster Safari through the city or join a design tour connecting emerging studios with established Swiss brands.
Rolex Switzerland Sail Grand Prix, Geneva (19–20 September 2026)
Foiling F50 catamarans race across Lake Geneva at speeds approaching 100 km/h, with the Jet d’Eau and Mont Blanc completing an unusually photogenic course. Returning to Geneva for its second edition, the championship brings some of the world’s leading sailing teams to the city for two days of high-speed racing.

Zurich Film Festival, Zurich (24 September–4 October 2026)
Eleven days of gala premieres, competition screenings and Green Carpet arrivals place Zurich firmly inside the international film conversation. Beyond the cinemas, ZFF Masters offers encounters with leading filmmakers, while SoundTrack_Zurich, the International Film Music Competition and Zurich Summit explore the creative business behind the screen.
Ruth Asawa at Fondation Beyeler, Basel (18 October 2026–10 January 2027)
Wire seems to float, fold and breathe in Ruth Asawa’s hands. Fondation Beyeler presents the first European retrospective devoted to the influential American artist, bringing together her suspended wire and bronze sculptures with drawings, prints and paintings that dissolve the boundaries between abstraction, figuration, craft and movement.

Swiss Indoors Basel, Basel (24 October–1 November 2026)
Nine days of ATP tennis bring precision, pressure and Center Court drama to Basel’s St. Jakobshalle. As one of the final ATP 500 tournaments of the season, Swiss Indoors attracts leading international players to Basel, with crucial ranking points at stake as the tennis calendar approaches its year-end finale.

Geneva Luxury Auction Week, Geneva (6–11 November 2026)
For collectors, November in Geneva means watches, diamonds and estimates waiting to be challenged. Sotheby’s stages its Important Watches sale on 8 November, while Christie’s auctions Zinedine Zidane’s first wristwatch on 9 November in support of ELA International. The previews offer nearly as much intrigue as the bidding.
Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), Geneva (7 November 2026)
The watch industry’s most closely observed awards return to the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices, where the year’s winners will be revealed on 7 November. Before the ceremony, all 84 nominated creations—78 wristwatches and six mechanical clocks—go on public display at Geneva’s Musée d’Art et d’Histoire.
